The Dutch are famous for their kaas (cheese) — the Netherlands exports more cheese than almost any other country! A typical Dutch breakfast is boterhammen (slices of bread) with cheese or hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles — yes, for breakfast!). How to express what you love or hate eating
๐ Grammar: Expressing food preferences
Dutch has two common ways to talk about food likes and dislikes:
Ik hou van... = I love... (strong positive feeling)
Ik lust... = I like (eating)... (specifically for food/drink)
Ik lust... niet = I don't like (eating)...
Ik hou niet van... = I don't like / I hate...
Ik lust is special — it ONLY applies to food and drink. You can't use it for music or people!
