Cultural Note — Healthcare in the Netherlands
The Dutch healthcare system is considered one of the best in Europe. Everyone needs a huisarts (general practitioner / GP) — your first point of contact for all health issues. To see a specialist, you need a referral from your huisarts. The emergency number in the Netherlands is 112 (same as EU). Dutch pharmacies are called apotheek and are easily identified by their green cross sign.
